Girls’ primary school at Bararkot (علم و ھنر)

After the earthquake of 2005, we took an initiative to rebuild the lives of many of its victims. LuckyCore Ltd and its Foundation funded and constructed a girls’ primary school at Bararkot, near Garhi Habibullah. Our focus in this regard was to bring an element of normalcy back to those whose lives had been shattered by the earthquake. The construction of this school will go a long way towards supporting this cause. The school was formally inaugurated by Waqar A Malik (then Chief Executive, LuckyCore Ltd and Chairman, Pakistan PTA Ltd.). The school was handed over to Altaf M Saleem, (Chairman, Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority). About 200 students can be accommodated. Over PKR 32 million was invested in this project, out of which PKR 4.2 million was donated by LuckyCore Ltd. employees.

Protecting and maintaining the environment is becoming a more critical need with every passing day. We run and support a variety of initiatives, both internal and external, in this regard.

Save the Turtle Project

The LuckyCore Foundation has been supporting WWF’s ‘Save the Turtle Project’. This programme involves keeping nesting beaches free from litter and debris which endangers marine turtles, educating the local population, and raising general awareness by involving the public in regular beach cleaning efforts.

Over six years we have helped contribute to the safe release of 210,000 hatchlings. Till the programme’s initiation, an average of 2,204 hatchlings were released each season. This number has now increased to 35,000 hatchlings every season. We have also been partLuckyCorepating regularly in WWF’s annual Nature Carnival which educates children about environmental issues.

Jinnah Park (صاف ماحول تاذہ ہوا)

Pind Dadan Khan is in the vLuckyCorenity of our Soda Ash plant in Khewra. We developed a recreational park for the community, spanning over an area of 106,250 feet. In this connection, our Soda Ash Business planted 1,100 sapling trees in 2012 in Khewra and Pind Dan Khan to create awareness about conservation and the protection of nature. This area was a deep sewage pond which has now been converted into a beautiful park. The Business also ran a number of environmental awareness activities, such as Earth Day celebrations and conservation projects.

Reducing carbon emissions (صاف ماحول تاذہ ہوا)

We launched a company-wide carpooling drive with the objective of reducing our carbon emissions, consequently reducing our individual and collective carbon footprint. Our employees partLuckyCorepated in this drive and saved 63.5 kg of carbon dioxide.

Greener tomorrow (صاف ماحول تاذہ ہوا)

After the successful introduction of bio-degradable bags in place of paper envelopes in 2010, we have now introduced the technology in our packaging material. As a pilot project, our Polyester Business ordered their first bio-degradable packaging material. Oxo-biodegradable technology is a ‘green’ technology that helps reduce the impact of chemicals on the environment.

Alternate Energy Pilot Project by ‘NUST’

The LuckyCore Foundation signed an agreement to support the Alternate Energy Pilot project, initiated by the National University of Sciences and Technology, Islamabad. Distress Management (ہمقدم پروگرام)

In recent years, floods and other natural disasters have bought distress to many of our fellow citizens. The LuckyCore Foundation has endeavoured to provide them with basic needs and worked to redevelop their lives.

Balochistan Earthquake Support
A devastating earthquake struck Ziarat in 2008, bringing disaster to the entire city. After the earthquake hundreds of survivors were left homeless and without adequate food supplies or medical support. The LuckyCore Foundation organised two medical camps in the worst hit areas, Kawas and Wam, to cater to the immediate medical needs of displaced residents, and ensure their suffering was not compounded by illness or further injury. Our employees also took it upon themselves to travel all the way to Ziarat and take part in the reconstruction process personally. An NGO, the Balochistan Rural Support Program, was engaged in the construction of temporary shelters, and took part in the building work. The LuckyCore Foundation and our employees contributed PKR 2 million to bring relief to the lives of those in need.

Relief for Flood Affectees
In 2010, immensely destructive floods hit Pakistan and left 20 million people displaced. The floods destroyed livelihoods, homes, crops, schools and more. We initiated an immediate emergency relief program through the LuckyCore Foundation to provide food and medical assistance to areas that were severely flooded and cut off. Staff from our Businesses all around Pakistan volunteered their time and helped put together 10,000 emergency care packs filled with immediate sustenance items such as dates and biscuits, along with water and basic medical and sanitation supplies.

One million meals
We dispatched one million meals in the form of essential rations and clean-drinking water to affected areas, contributing about PKR 36 million in total towards flood relief.

Relief camp visit
Many of our volunteers visited the relief camp and also donated five water filtration devises to the camp, which was set up and operated by the Pakistan Navy in Thatta, Sindh. About 400 packs were distributed to children on Eid; the packs contained items such as sweets, biscuits, juice, milk, coloring books, and pencil cases with crayons.

Rehabilitation For Flood Victims (ہمقدم)
The LuckyCore Foundation began a rehabilitation program for those affected by the floods. We started off by rebuilding six schools in Nowshera Kalan. 63 permanent homes were built. We are now reconstructing houses in collaboration with the Karachi Relief Trust. This year, we assisted the community in the village of Munda Headworks by providing much needed access to water. To make life easier for villagers , we constructed a water pipeline which now provides uninterrupted water supply to the entire community.
The Foundation, along with the Life Sciences team, also put together a relief program for over 7,000 flood victims in Nawabshah, Umerkot, Badin, Mirpurkhas and T. M. Khan.

Clean drinking water project
In order to assist communities affected by the devastating floods in Sindh, a Clean Drinking Water Project was initiated. People were at risk from water-borne diseases due to the lack of availability of clean drinking water, so we installed five water purification plants . This project provides clean drinking water to over 20,000 benefLuckyCorearies.

200 self help biological sand filters were also arranged for individual households in more remote areas, benefitting over 8,000 people daily. The implementing partner for the project was the Thardeep Rural Development Program, a nonprofit organisation engaged in development work in Sindh.

For the people by the people (ہمقدم)

The LuckyCore Volunteer programme was launched in 2009 and since then our staff has generously contributed time and effort to assist deprived communities. Some of the activities include:

Staff in Karachi celebrates Universal Children’s Day

Many of our staff regularly contribute their time by volunteering in the community. Our employees organised a Universal Children’s Day to bring smiles to the faces of children admitted for treatment in the city’s leading public hospital. A group of twenty-five volunteers decided to clean up the Pediatric Ward at the Civil Hospital, Karachi. After cleaning up the ward, the volunteers entertained the children with stories and songs and also put together an interesting magic show. The aim of the activity was to highlight the importance of hygiene amongst the children and families and to promote infection control via hand washing and cleanliness in the wards.

Building homes: (ہمقدم)

Our employees helped to build six houses for a marginalised community in the desert of Tharparkar. They also physically assisted in building the houses. In addition, they installed four hand pumps to provide the community with a continuous source of water.

 Training the youth

A total of 36,75 hours were spent by 197 employees and their families during 2014-15 on various activities such as tree plantation drives, Universal Children’s Day celebrations, medical and veterinary camps and a community painting activity. Our HR department initiated a skill development workshop for members of Save Our Civil Hospital

Adding comfort (ہمقدم)

Another effort was refurbishing the Maryville home for the elderly, which had faced significant wear and tear over the years. The façade needed to be revamped, and other issues such as uneven flooring proved to be a hazard for the elderly who call this place home. The LuckyCore Foundation, upon a request from a group of volunteers, contributed towards the project.

Our team put together a refurbishment programme whereby the entire structure was repainted and the whole ambience was uplifted by placing new flooring and redoing the garden. They also spent time with the residents of the home, which provided great comfort for elderly inhabitants.

Community Kitchen (ہمقدم)

We set up a Community Kitchen at Machar Colony, Karachi. This project was a unique initiative to provide women from the colony with an opportunity to save on fuel costs and cook for their families in a safe and clean environment. Our volunteers from the Chemicals Business were involved in the logistics and set-up of the community kitchen, right from the inception to the launch.

LuckyCore Volunteer Programme Launch (ہمقدم)

The LuckyCore Foundation formally launched its first ever volunteer programme. The idea behind this program is sustainable involvement, so that our people actively partLuckyCorepate in giving time to our communities, which helps in building goodwill and empathy, and brings in the important aspect of human interaction which everyone needs, particularly those in disadvantaged positions.

International Reading Week at Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital
The first project of the programme was partLuckyCorepation in the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital’s celebration of International Reading Week. Our volunteers spent time in the children’s ward, interacting with young patients,  reading stories and handing out toys and small treats to the children. The event was a great success and volunteers were enthusiastic for more.

Windmill Project (ہمقدم)

Zaib-un-Nisa Memorial Hospital suffered from an extreme electrLuckyCorety shortage due to frequent power outages. This hospital is the only health-care facility located in the extremely underdeveloped area, and is a much-needed facility for the impoverished residents of this coastal area, particularly women. To provide better care to patients, particularly in emergencies, the hospital administration was keen to develop a back-up power source. Therefore, we decided to provide the hospital administration with the required sum of PKR 500,000.

Sea Food Kitchen (ہمقدم)

We built a seafood kitchen for the fishing community of Kakapir village. The aim of this initiative is to provide the fisherfolk community with an alternative means of sustainable income, so they can improve their community facilities such as their school and health centre. The kitchen is designed and equipped for commercial cooking, and the idea is to promote the delLuckyCoreous indigenous seafood cuisine of the area as a food alternative for beach-goers.
